E-Lowcountry AFG Service Opportunities

If you are interested in doing service work with our group, we have some weekly service options available. First and foremost, just being in attendance is being of service to others. Even if you choose not to share, you’re there to listen and that is service in the simplest form! There are no requirements for sharing, being a reader, and of course listening!

Before signing up for service, please familiarize yourself with our Group Conscience agreed upon service requirements for these positions! If you are unsure about requirements or need more information, please feel free to email the group at elowcountryafg@gmail.com or text the group at 843-405-8700 and someone will return your message.

* Chairperson – the chairperson position is a volunteer position that anyone with 6+ months of continuous Al-Anon fellowship AND being in the midst of working through or have worked through the 12 Steps with a sponsor. The duties of the chairperson consist of arriving about 5-10 minutes before the meeting, finding reader volunteers before the meeting starts, reading the meeting script, and providing the topic of the meeting. All topics are “chairperson’s choice” so any topic pertaining to Al-Anon is relevant. Your topic intro should last 5-7 minutes or less so that we can allow the most members an opportunity to share on the topic you present.

* Host – the host is a pre-selected and trained member of our “Tech Team”. Hosts are provided access information to open the meeting 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. The host coordinates with their co-host on how the meeting will be facilitated (calling on people with their hand up, provide meeting information in chat, assisting with technical difficulties or disruptions, providing time reminders, etc). If you haven’t been trained / given access codes for our group, do not sign up for this position.

* Co-host – the co-host position can be held by anyone who has performed the Chairperson position and has regular attendance with the E-Lowcountry AFG. The duties a co-host can be responsible for depends on what is delegated to them by the host that day. Some hosts are more hands on and others split up the responsibility. In the event the host disconnects, the co-host will assume hosting responsibility until the host can reconnect.

If you meet the criteria to perform any of these positions, we encourage you to sign up for service. If you sign up for service at a meeting, please only choose ONE of the three positions for that meeting. Also, please spread your sign ups out so you aren’t doing service repeatedly back to back for Chairperson and co-host positions. There are over 20 people on our chairperson contact list so we try to spread out service opportunities for as many as are available to participate. If it is the day of a meeting and there are still no sign ups for a job, please don’t hesitate to jump in though!
